Students in your classes may choose to use the Moodle Mobile app to access your iLearn class. Here are a few recommendations for making sure your students have the best possible experience with the app:
Ensure you have a correct course start date set
Every iLearn class has a course start date setting. This controls whether your course is shown to students using the Moodle Mobile app or not. The default date is the first day of the semester. For example, all Fall 2018 classes had a course start date of August 27, 2018. If your class does not start on the first day of the semester, make sure you update the course start date in your course settings.
Set a related and compelling course image
In the course settings you can set a Course summary file. This is an image that appears as a banner in the app as shown below. If desired, upload a descriptive image for your course here.
Ensure your activities have set start and due dates
The app includes a quick view of iLearn's calendar. Any item in a course that has an explicit due date and time appear in the calendar automatically. It is important that instructors set correct start and due dates for activities such as assignments and quizzes to ensure that students get an accurate picture of when things are due.
Some items in iLearn such as discussion forums and file resources do not have date settings. For items such as these instructors may want to manually enter them into the course calendar in iLearn.
Use links over embedded videos
If uploading a video to iLearn or using other online video sources, it is better to link to the video using the iLearn video resource or URL resource rather than embedding the video using a label. Students using the Mobile App cannot see videos that are directly embedded on your course page but can see videos that are added as links.
This is helpful for non-mobile app users as well as embedding video directly on an iLearn course page can cause your course to load slowly, especially on unstable WiFi or slower connections.
Note: iLearn is compatible with the Moodle Mobile app available for Android and iOS devices. You can download the Moodle Mobile app from the Google Play Store or the Apple App store.
