Requires Teacher role
Scales in iLearn are a non-numeric way of giving quick feedback to students without actually impacting the student's grade in the course. iLearn includes a default Complete/Not complete scale that lets instructors simply mark whether an assignment was completed or not, but does allow for custom scales to be built to better suit the needs of the course.
To build a custom scale
- Navigate to the gradebook by selecting Grades in the drawer on the left
Note: Don't see the drawer on the left? Click on the expand icon in the upper left corner of the page, directly to the left of the iLearn logo.
- Select the Scales tab
- Select Add a new scale
- Give your scale a name. This name is not shown to students, but is the name you will choose when attaching this scale to an activity, so make sure it's something descriptive
- Enter your scale, separated by commas, in the Scale field, from worst to best
- Select Save changes to save your scale and make it available to any graded activities
Using a custom scale
In graded activities such as iLearn assignments, your scale will appear in the list when selecting Scale as the grading method, as shown in the screenshot below.
