Interested in taking workshops on Canvas but not ready to transition yet

I followed link to sign up for workshops, however, it appears that I have to select Canvas for this semester before I can attend a workshop...is that so? How do I sign up for workshops and sandbox's for Canvas without losing the ability to continue with I Learn this Spring semester. 

Also, what does sandbox mean?

  You do not need to select Canvas for Spring 2023 in order to attend a workshop.

  A sandbox is a course in Canvas that you can play around with. It's an empty site that does not have any students that is created for you so you can begin to experiment with Canvas features at your own pace.
