Captions in Mediasite
AnsweredHow do captions work in Mediasite? Some of the videos I've uploaded from Camtasia with captions show them automatically (and you can't turn them off) and some don't show them at all (and you can't turn them on). Am I doing something wrong?

Mediasite does not caption anything automatically. Similar to iLearn video, any Mediasite captions are generated when your course is flagged as needing captioning by DPRC.
In the case of "captions that I can't turn off", it's possible your original video had captions burned into them as open captions. This wouldn't be something that Mediasite would do on its own.

Thanks, Cristian! We want all of our information literacy and research videos to have captions because we plan on sharing our modules with instructors across the university. How would you recommend that we do that? We are happy to upload caption files manually. Or if the only option is automatic captioning, should we contact the DPRC to "flag" our course?

You might want to try Canvas Studio; it has an auto-captioning feature. While DPRC would say that it's not adequate for accommodation reasons, it does give you a chance to spot check the captions before going live.
