Grade Book Export and People list just changed??
AnsweredA week ago, when you exported the grade book, you got the:
Student (last, First); ID; SIS User ID (the sfsu student ID); SIS Login ID (The SFSU email); and Section
Today the SS Login ID is no longer the SFSU email address of the student but the SFSU ID of the student (i.e. the ID is repeated in both the SIS User ID and SIS Login ID)
Even under PEOPLE, the Login ID and the SIS ID both show the student ID number, where before it showed the email address under Login ID.
This is really bad!! I now can not see their email address in Canvas, and I can not export a list with it.
Please restore the email address...

Email data is incredibly unreliable on campus. This change was made primarily because some people were unable to log in to Canvas due to their email address on record not matching with the campus login system. The change was made to use SFSU ID instead of email as SFSU ID is always reliable.
I spoke to Canvas support this morning, and they don't have a method of displaying email directly in gradebook exports and the People page after we've made this change, so this is not going to be available. I've put in a feature request with them for this, though, so we'll see what happens.

Note that not displaying email doesn't mean you can't contact students. The built in messaging in Canvas will still send email to students (as well as notify them in the app). This doesn't affect the functionality of sending messages via Canvas, only what fields are displayed. If you'd also rather not use Canvas' built-in messaging systems to send out email, you could also download the roster with emails from your faculty center and use that in Outlook instead.
Login ID is used by the campus login system. This has to be SFSU ID for people to be able to log in. SIS ID also has to be SFSU ID as this is what Canvas uses to track enrollments. We cannot switch either to email without causing additional problems for people.
