Qualtrics has a wide spectrum of question types available for use. This guide will go over the most commonly used question types (Multiple Choice, Text Entry & Descriptive Text) but users may experiment with different types if desired.
Multiple Choice - A question that will give respondents an option of choices to select from. You may set the question to allow only one option to be selected (e.g. radio buttons) or multiple (e.g. checkboxes).
Text Entry - Respondents will be shown an empty text field that they may type a freeform response in.
Descriptive Text - Allows you to add content to your survey without asking a question. For example, you may use this to add an introduction or to provide instructions at the start of the survey.
Add or change question
On your Project page, select the + Create a New Question button. By default a Multiple Choice question will be created. If you would like a different question type, in the Change Question Type field, select the dropdown menu and select a new question type. Repeat these steps to add all your desired questions to the Project.
Note: Some question types have additional advanced settings that may be changed (e.g. number of choices, position, etc.) Users are encouraged to experiment with these advanced settings once they feel comfortable with the default settings.
All done with adding questions to your Project? We recommend checking out the Rearrange question order guide next.
