UDOIT is an accessibility checker tool built in to Canvas. Instructors can use UDOIT to scan their own courses for accessibility issues. A companion feature to UDOIT called UFIXIT provides tools to address common accessibility concerns. This guide will cover accessing UDOIT and scanning your course.
Accessing UDOIT
- In your Canvas course, select UDOIT from the course navigation on the left.
- On first launch, a tutorial page may be shown. It is encouraged to review the introduction the first time you access the tool
- After reviewing the introduction, UDOIT will automatically begin scanning your course. After a few minutes the results will be shown on the dashboard.
Reviewing the scores
The score shown at the top is the course's overall accessibility score. This number works like a grade (higher is better). Everyone wants a passing grade for their course! If you need to scan your course again after you've made changes, clicking the blue Scan Now button in the upper right corner will manually start a scan.
The dashboard breaks down the score into three categories, high, medium and low impact. A high impact item is weighted higher than a low impact item. Clicking the How does scoring work link will take you to the CidiLabs breakdown on how scoring is calculated.
On the right are a series of filters labelled Ways to Get Started including links to content that is easiest to fix. It is recommended to start here as fixing these issues can dramatically improve your course's score with minimal effort.
The companion guide to fixing issues with UFIXIT goes into greater detail of the review and remediation process.
