UFIXIT is a companion tool bundled with UDOIT designed to help address accessibility issues identified during a UDOIT scan.
- The UFIXIT link will activate after scanning your course with UDOIT. Click on the link to begin the review process.
- UFIXIT will show a list of all identified issues. The table shows the name of the item within the course, what type of item it is, what the identified issue is, and a button to review. Note that by default, UDOIT and UFIXIT only scan items in your course that are published and available to students.
- Click the Review button next to the item you wish to address to begin the review process
Examples of review
UFIXT provides a variety of different remediation possibilities depending on the issue identified. Below are a few examples of the types of fixes that can be done within UFIXIT.
Note: UFIXIT provides an explaination of the issue identified and a recommendation for a fix. It is important to read the explaination to understand what the issue is before performing a fix.
A review dialog box is broken down into three parts: an explanation of the issue at the top, tools to address the issue in the middle, and navigation buttons at the bottom.
Alt text for images
One of the more common issues found by UDOIT are images lacking alternative text (also known as alt text). The dialog box will show the image in question, where the image is located, and provides a box to enter descriptive text for the image. Once you've made your changes, click Save.
Note: While it may be tempting, use the mark this image as decorative checkbox sparingly. Students who use assistive technologies to read your course material use the alt text field to understand the context of your content including any images that you've provided. Even decorative images should be described!
Color contrast issues
The color contrast dialog box shows text with insufficient contrast in foreground and background colors. The background or text color can be adjusted with the arrows in the dialog to help adjust contrast and make the text more readable. The adjustments are incremental and are designed to preserve your stylistic intent while also making content more readable for students. Once you've made your changes, click Save.
