Zoom has tools built to allow trimming the beginning and end of cloud recordings. Cloud recordings can also be downloaded and edited locally using video editing software on your own computer.
Editing cloud recordings
Editing cloud recordings is done through your browser.
- Navigate to https://sfsu.zoom.us/signin and sign in with your SF State credentials
- Select Recordings from the list on the left
- Select the recording you wish to edit
- Select the view you wish to edit. When in doubt, Shared screen with speaker view is a safe choice
- Select the Scissors tool
- Position the Playback start handle where you want the video to start. You can use the arrows on the handle to advance one second at a time, or you can drag it to where you want using the mouse
- Position the Playback end handle where you want the video to end. You can use the arrows on the handle to advance one second at a time, or you can drag it to where you want using the mouse
- Select Save to save your edits
Editing offline
If you need to make more extensive edits, or trim out portions of the middle of the recording, you will need to edit offline using video editing software. The campus provides licenses to Adobe Premiere and Camtasia to faculty and staff. You will need to download your recording from Zoom in order to be able to edit it offline.
Using editing software on your own computer is outside of the scope of this support document. The steps below are instructions for downloading the recording from Zoom onto your computer.
- Navigate to https://sfsu.zoom.us/signin and sign in with your SF State credentials
- Select Recordings from the list on the left
- Select the recording you wish to edit
- Select the view you wish to edit. When in doubt, Shared screen with speaker view is a safe choice
- Select the Download link
- Import the video into your video editing software and perform your edits
- (optional) If the video is intended for a class, use iLearn video to upload the video to your iLearn class
