Entering a grade and private comments
1. Log in to Canvas.
2. Navigate to your course in Canvas.
3. From the left-side course navigation menu, select Discussions.
4. From the list of Discussions, find the discussion that requires grading, then select the three dots directly to the right of it.
5. From the drop-down menu, select SpeedGrader. The SpeedGrader interface will automatically load on the screen.
6. A student's reply to the discussion will appear on the left side of the screen. On the left, you will also see any replies that the student has written in response to another student's reply. On the right side, under "Assessment", enter the overall grade for the discussion.
7. [Optional] Under "Assignment Comments", enter any comments that only this one student will see, then select Submit.
After entering a grade and comments, you can use the arrows in the top right corner to move to the next student who has replied to the discussion. There is no save button; the grade entered will automatically transfer into the gradebook.
Adding comments viewable by the entire course
1. Log in to Canvas.
2. Navigate to your course in Canvas.
3. From the left-side course navigation menu, select Discussions.
4. From the list of Discussions, select the title of the discussion that needs comments.
5. Scroll down on the discussion thread, and find the student's reply to the Discussion. Alternatively, you can use the Search bar under the discussion prompt to quickly find specific students.
6. Underneath the student's reply, select Reply.
7. In the text box, enter any comments.
8. Once you have finished with the comments, select the Post Reply button.
The student will receive a notification that someone has replied to their discussion reply. All students in the course will also be able to view the comments on the discussion thread.
