Zoom has very low technical requirements. The bare minimum required is a computer with a broadband internet connection, a microphone and optionally a webcam. All SF State standard laptops (both Mac and PC) meet all of those requirements without any additional purchases.
Users of iOS and Android devices also do not need any additional equipment to participate in a Zoom session other than the official Zoom app. BlackberryOS users can download the app from the Blackberry World store. Zoom does not have apps for Windows Mobile.
For those that have a computer without a built-in webcam and microphone (such as desktop computers), these are the recommended cameras:
- Highest end: Logitech C920
- General use: Logitech C270
Note: Both of the recommended cameras have built-in microphones.
If you are in a noisy environment such as a shared office or coffee shop, a headset with a microphone is recommended. Any headphones with built-in microphones such as the earbuds that come with mobile phones or iPods will work with Zoom.
- USB headset: Jabra 550
For those looking to hold conferences with multiple people in the same small room, we recommend the following:
- Camera: Logitech C930
- Microphone (if using a large conference table): Jabra 510
