Canvas Studio provides a way for students and instructors to upload or record video directly into Canvas in a few different contexts.

Canvas Studio "My Library"

One of the main areas to interact with Canvas Studio is My Library. This is available in the global navigation bar on the left.

My Library allows you to upload or record new videos, organize existing content, and access additional features, such as video editing.

Upload a preexisting video

If you have a video already on your computer you want to upload, you can simply drag and drop it from your desktop onto the canvas studio My Library page.

Alternatively you can click on the Add button on the top of the page.

Record a new video

Canvas Studio allows recording directly from the web page. Select the Record button at the top of the page to bring up the recording interface.

The two options available are Screen Capture and Webcam Capture.

Note: Screen capture requires an additional piece of software to be downloaded in order to capture your screen. The first time you do a screen capture recording, you will be prompted to download the software before you continue. Subsequent recordings will simply open the software.

A webcam capture is the simplest type of recording, good for "talking head" type videos. Select Webcam Capture to start recording. Depending on your browser privacy settings you may see an additional box asking for permission to access your camera and microphone. You will need to allow these in order for the website to be able to do the recording.

Selecting Start Recording will give you a countdown from 3 and then begin recording.

Select Finish when you are done recording.

Adding video

As a link in a module (instructors only)

As an embedded video in a page or other text area (students and instructors)

1. In the text box where you want to add a video, select the Plugins tool
   
2. From the list, select Canvas Studio. If you do not see studio in the list, select View all
3. Select the video you want to add from your library. Alternatively if you wish to add or record a new video, select the three dots menu in the top corner
4. Select Embed
5. Finish editing your content and save
