Canvas generally uses a metaphor of a book as a method of conceptualizing organization. Modules can be thought of as the table of contents for your course guiding students through your course in the order you create from top to bottom. Organizing your course using modules can provide clarity and context to your students as they navigate your course.
- On your course page, select Modules from the course navigation on the left
- Add a new module by selecting the +Module button at the top of the page. In the panel that appears on the right side, give your module a name and select Add module at the bottom.
Now that a module exists in your course you can add content to it. The following guides have more information for adding specific types of content.
Adding content to modules
- Adding a File to a Module
- Adding a Page to a Module
- Adding a Discussion to a Module
- Adding an External URL to a Module
- Adding a Canvas Studio video to a Module
- Create an Assignment in Canvas
Organizing content within a module
Items within a module can be moved using the move handle (icon of 6 dots to the left of the item name). To move an item, click, hold and drag the item where you want it to go. To move an entire module, click, hold and drag the move handle in the module title.
